 Tahawwur Rana Rana was found guilty of conspiring to support a terrorist plot in Denmark and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in the United States less than a year after the attacks in Mumbai. Rana is a Canadian citizen who was born in Pakistan and is a close associate of David Coleman Headley, also known as Daood Gilani, a US citizen who was one of the main conspirators in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistan-sponsored Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists carried out a coordinated attack on Mumbai CST railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after they sneaked into India's financial capital using the sea route in the Arabian Sea.

 As many as 166 people were killed in the nearly 60-hour assault that sent shockwaves across the country and even brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war.

A victim of the Mumbai attacks, Devika Natwarlal Rotawan, expressed her gratitude to the Indian and American governments and described Rana's extradition as India's biggest victory against terrorism. “The fact that Tahawwur Rana is finally being returned to India makes me so happy. India's greatest victory against terrorism came in this manner. So, I am very happy. I would like to express my gratitude to the US and Indian governments. Rotawan told ANI that the US government gave the Indian government a lot of support.
